History Of Labor Day In India
The first day of celebrating Labor Day in India started in Chennai on 1 May 1923. At that time it was authoritative as Madras Day which was started by Comrade Singaravelu Chettiar, leader of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Kisan Party.
In India, a big presentation was held in front of the Madras High Court and bypassing a resolution, it was agreed that this day should be celebrated as Labor Day in India also. Labor Day Holiday should be declared. At that time, many leaders came forward to fight the workers’ war in India, among whom the big names were Dattatreya Narayan Samant alias Dr. Saheb and George Fernandes.
