Robredo: It was announced on Jan. 11 that at least two Catholic groups are supporting Vice President Leonor “Leni” Robredo’s campaign for the presidency this year.

Catholic theologian group DaKaTeo called Robredo the “best candidate to combat social sins that afflict Philippine society.”

Due to her track record, she was considered the best candidate for the highest office in the country.

“Even before entering the political arena, Leni has done so many things for the good of the people,” wrote the group in a statement.

It cited Robredo’s “commendable” handling of public funds as the reason for her high rating from the Commission on Audit, which examines all expenditures of public funds.

“During her years as vice president, the commission has proven that her office is the cleanest in government.” said the group.

We want to enlighten the undecided voters … to choose not the lesser evil but leaders who would stand for truth and justice

In a swipe aimed at current President Rodrigo Duterte, it said she “is not a thief, liar, cheater, lazy, boastful and a killer. She does not favor oligarchs, friends and political allies … She does not divide the nation because of corruption.”

Robredo was backed by a group of former seminarians who urged Catholics to use discernment “truthfully” to vote for the right candidate.

“We want to educate the marginalized sectors of society who are often used and abused by deceitful politicians during elections to vote for their own

vested interests … and our discernment process points to Robredo as the best candidate,” According to a Facebook post by the group.

“To our fellow Catholics who are still undecided. We want to enlighten the undecided voters … to choose not the lesser evil but leaders who would stand for truth and justice in the interest of the nation against the machinations of evil in the form of corruption, lies, fake news and deceit,” Addition of the group.

These theologians and seminarians are supporting the vice president, who has been a critic of Duterte, along with other Catholic groups, institutions and even clerics.

One of them is Duterte’s alma mater, the Catholic San Beda University. It is also believed that Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen will support Robredo after praising a group of doctors who came out to support her last week.
