Gandhidham-Puri Express: A fire broke out in the pantry car of the Gandhidham-Puri Express train near Nandurbar station in Maharashtra on Saturday, causing much panic among passengers. Everyone was safe, fortunately.
At 10:35am, the pantry car of the Gandhidham-Puri Express catches fire as it enters Nandurbar station. There are no injuries. At 12:10pm, the fire was extinguished, and the lines were restored.
As the Gandhidham-Puri Express entered Nandurbar station at 10:30 am, Dy. SS/Nandurbar informed Nandurbar Control a fire had been detected in a pantry car. The fire department was called. Fire extinguishers were used to suppress the flames. It separated from the pantry car. All passengers are safe: Railways Ministry
Railways informed the fire brigade while the fire extinguishers of the train and the station were being used douse the flames. Trains have been separated from the Pantry car.
According to the Railway Ministry, all passengers have been evacuated safely. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Western Railway informed, “A medical team and other paramedical staff immediately rushed to the site. There have been no injuries. The train comprises of total 22 coaches and the pantry car was the 13th coach.”
According to Western Railway’s chief spokesperson, the blaze broke out around 10.35 am when the Odisha-bound train (12993) was arriving at the railway station. A pantry car was the 13th coach on board the train. Around 10.45 am, the pantry car was separated from the front and rear portions of the train.
Extinguishers at the station and inside the train were used to douse the flames, the report said, and no one was injured. It added that the fire brigade personnel were immediately notified and arrived at the scene at 11 a.m. Senior railway officers, paramedics, and medical staff immediately responded to the scene.
According to a police official, “due to the fire, smoke engulfed the pantry car, which triggered panic among the passengers and a few of them even jumped out of the train as it was moving slowly. The train was soon brought to a halt.” The fire was doused by around noon, he said, adding that the cause behind the blaze is being ascertained. Located in northwest Maharashtra, the Nandurbar district is about 450 kilometers from Mumbai.
