At least 12 labourers have been killed after a automobile carrying them overturned in Buldhana district of Maharashtra on Friday, police stated.

The incident occurred close to Dusarbid village at Tadegaon Phata on Sindkhedraja-Mehkar Road round 12 midday when the labourers have been being taken for the work on Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway mission, an official stated.

A complete of 16 labourers have been travelling within the automobile that was additionally transporting metal for the freeway mission, he stated.

“The vehicle was speeding and it overturned due to a large pothole on the road. At least 12 labourers were killed and others suffered injuries,” Buldhana Superintendent of Police Arvind Chavria instructed PTI.

After getting details about it, the personnel of the Kingaon Raja police station rushed the spot and commenced the rescue operation, he stated.

While a few of the injured have been taken to a state-run hospital in neighboring Jalna district, others have been have been admitted Sindhkhedraja hospital, the official stated.

According to him, most of those labourers have been from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
