Ratan Tata, former chairman of Tata Sons, was pictured alongside his assistant, Shantanu Naidu, posing alongside a custom-made electric Nano earlier this week. Tata Motors, a provider of powertrain solutions to car manufacturers, was founded by Ratan Tata himself.

In the caption, Electra EV wrote, “It is a moment of truth for Team Electra EV when our Founder takes a ride in the custom-built 72V Nano EV, powered by the engineering might of Electra EV’s powertrain! We are super proud to deliver Mr Tata’s Nano EV and gain insights from his invaluable feedback. #SuperChargedTeam #Sustainablility #EVPowertrainIndia #InnovationForElectricMobility #ElectraEVPowertrain #Future #EVPowetrainInnovation”

Under the post, Shantanu Naidu appreciated the electric car’s performance and wrote, “It glided more than it drove…good job”. So far, the post has gathered over 23,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

Tata Nano electric vehicles have been converted by Electra EV for Bengaluru-based SainikPod Sit & Go, a last-mile mobility service run by MotherPod Innovations Private Limited. The company employs ex-servicemen to operate the all-electric fleet.

Tata Motors ceased production of the Nano compact car in 2018, after only one unit was built at its plant in Sanand. Companies that make electric vehicles in India currently include Nexon EV and Tigor EV.

Tata Motors announced its plan to launch at least seven of its 10 EVs in the coming four years. The automaker also plans to raise ₹7,500 crore to enhance its EV business. Among the upcoming electric cars from Tata Motors, there is speculation that it will launch the electric versions of its popular Altroz and Tiago hatchbacks.

The post prompted many people to express their desire to see more electric vehicles manufactured by the automaker. A Linkedin user commented, “I believe Tata Nano Electric would be a success if it was made into production, we have seen the success of NEXON EV and TIGOR EV. Everyone wants a small city electric car that is easy to drive in city traffic. Nano fits the gap. Easy to drive and easy to park.”

Electra EV currently offers two electric cars: the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV.  For electric cars to succeed, the government must provide cities and towns with infrastructure such as fast-charging stations and better tax incentives for these vehicles.
