Origin Of National Civil Service Day
Its origins relate to the year 1947 when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Home Member, Parliament inaugurated All India Services on 21 April. Addressing the probation officers at the All India Administrative Services Training School at Metcalf House, Delhi, he gave a powerful speech and empowered civil servants to embrace the true role of national service, leaving behind the experience of the past. In his speech, he called the civil servants ‘the steel frame of India’. The first such ceremony was held on 21 April 2006 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Therefore, since 2006, it has been celebrated as National Civil Service Day on 21 April. On this day, Prime Minister awards are also given for specialization in public administration.
