A 40-year-old lady was allegedly gangraped after which paraded within the title of witch-craft in a village underneath Chaibasa district. The incident had occurred on the night time of June 10. An FIR on this regard was registered on Wednesday. Four individuals have been arrested within the case on Thursday. Two different accused within the case are absconding.
According to the police, the girl, alongside along with her husband, who labored as a labourer in Jamshedpur, and her brother approached Tonto police station on Wednesday, following which an FIR was registered.
The police performed a raid within the village Thursday arrested 4 individuals – Ashish Laguri, Bahadur Singh Laguri, Ramesh Laguri and Mangal Singh Laguri. Two different accused – Mantri Laguri and Jinga Laguri – have been absconding.
As per the girl’s grievance, she was sleeping in her home late on the night time of June 10 when Ashish and Bahadur barged inside and took her to the home of 1 Joria Singh Laguri close by on some pretext. At the time, the girl was alone. They first started beating her. Around midnight, three of them took turns raping her. They additionally allegedly stripped her.
Early within the morning, they received her to place some garments after which paraded her within the space alleging that she was into practising witch-craft. Somehow, the girl, who fell sick following the incident, managed to contact her brother. He, in flip, knowledgeable her husband. The husband reached house and, after realising what had occurred, approached the police on Wednesday.
Chaibasa Superintendent of Police Michael S Raj stated: “The accused did not parade her publicly. However, we have taken the incident seriously and arrests have been made. We are waiting for the medical report. So far, there is nothing on record to prove that the accused had any dispute with the woman. We are probing further.”
Office-in-charge Tonto Bam Shankar Yadav stated: “The accused are considered to be anti-social elements in the village and not many are ready to come out against them in the open. However, we are conducting our investigations and will catch the other two accused. It is clear that they had plans to harass the woman for the past few days.”
