CHICAGO – Six University of Chicago student-athletes across four sports were recently named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Two UChicago women’s soccer players were chosen as First Team Academic All-District – Maddie DeVoe and Katie Jasminski. The senior duo helped the Maroons win 81 percent of their contests since their collegiate debuts in 2017, which featured three-straight NCAA postseason bids and a national runner-up finish.
DeVoe anchored one of the nation’s top defenses which totaled 31 shutouts during her three years on the field. She totaled nine goals and five assists over the course of her 63-game career. DeVoe was a 2019 First Team All-Region selection and secured All-University Athletic Association honors twice. She also was recognized on the UAA All-Academic Team three times and was named a 2019 Third Team Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches (USC).
At her forward position, Jasminski tallied 16 goals and 18 assists in her three seasons of play. She currently ranks 10th in the program’s record books for career assists. Her 2019 campaign was recognized with USC First Team All-Region status as well as USC Second Team Scholar All-American accolades. Jasminski was a two-time All-UAA honoree and a three-time UAA All-Academic Team recipient.
The Maroon men’s soccer team also accounted for two Academic All-District picks with the senior defender tandem of Scott Lich and Isaiah Holquist. Both players were three-year starters at right back and left back, respectively, for one of the top squads in all of NCAA Division III. During their time on the team, UChicago won 83 percent of its games, qualified for the NCAA postseason three times and reached the NCAA Semifinals twice. The defense totaled 33 shutouts over three years and limited opponents to a goals against average of less than 0.77 each season. The Maroons also won three UAA titles with a combined 19-2 conference record.
Both Lich and Holquist played in 62 games with 56 starts, and each were named to the UAA All-Academic Team three times. Lich’s standout 2019 season saw him feted as a Third Team All-American (D3soccer.com), USC First Team All-Region and UAA Defensive Player of the Year. Lich also tallied three goals and seven assists in his career. Holquist’s 2019 campaign featured USC Second Team All-Region and Second Team All-UAA awards. His career scoring line included two goals and four assists.
Emma Griffith was picked to the Academic All-District Volleyball Team for the third-straight year. The senior setter was a three-year starter for the Maroons, averaging 10.79 assists per set and 3.15 digs per set over her career. In 2019, she was named a First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). That season, she ranked fifth in the nation in assists per set (11.01) and led UChicago to the NCAA Third Round for the first time in program history. Griffith’s 3,723 career assists are second-most in the school’s record books. She was named First Team All-UAA three times and AVCA All-Region twice. The Maroons qualified for the NCAA postseason three-straight seasons with an .816 overall winning percentage with Griffith on the squad. She was a three-year UAA All-Academic Team member as well.
Maroon football’s Jackson Ross earned the second Academic All-District honor of his career. The senior defensive tackle was previously a 2018 CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American. Over his three years on the gridiron, Ross was UChicago’s leading tackler each season with 93 tackles per year (9.6 per game) from his defensive tackle position. He also accumulated 9.5 sacks, 20.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three blocked kicks and two interceptions.
Ross was named Third Team All-Region and First Team All-Midwest Conference in both 2018 and 2019. In 2020, he was a D3football.com Third Team Preseason All-American and earned a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. His recognitions also include selections to the MWC All-Academic Team three times and the UAA All-Academic Team twice.
